Should You Weigh Yourself Daily?

Why Weigh Yourself Daily

Deciding whether or not to weigh yourself daily doesn’t sound like it’s something complicated.  However, as you check out what people are saying online, you may suddenly discover that things become considerably more complex.  There are a lot of personal opinions, studies, and speculations about the impact of checking your bathroom scale each day when compared to using other intervals – such as weekly or monthly – or not using a scale at all.

What technique is best for you?  Should you weigh yourself daily, weekly, monthly, or should you shove that scale into a closet so you aren’t tempted to use it at all?

Many Opinions About Weighing Your Body

There are many speculations about weighing yourself. Some people say that you should only weigh yourself on a weekly basis. On the other hand, there are some who promote the idea of weighing yourself daily or, by contrast, only once in a while. On the whole, most health experts say that keeping track of your body weight levels at some point is important.  After all, this is the most widely accepted method (within certain restrictions) for knowing if you are overweight, a healthy body mass, or underweight.

All that said, what’s the answer? Should you weigh yourself daily? Is it the same for everyone, or do we each have to find what’s right for our own unique needs and expectations?

Why Should You Weigh Yourself Daily?

One of the main reasons many people are in favor of choosing to weigh yourself on a daily basis is to track your progress toward your goal.  Then, once you arrive at your goal, it’s the best way to know that you’re staying on track and aren’t continuing to lose an excessive amount of weight nor are you regaining what you lost.

There are many people who weigh themselves daily.  Then again, there are many people who do this weekly. While it is effective, it is not the best method for everyone. Thus, it’s up to you if you should weigh yourself daily and note your weight or if you need to change the frequency.

Give it a try for a couple of weeks to give it a good try. At the end of each week, you can analyze your progress over the course of the week and calculate how much weight you have lost. Then, ask yourself if that worked as it was or if you should choose a day of the week or of the month to weigh yourself instead.

At What Time Should You Weigh Yourself?

The best time to weigh yourself is in the morning, before you eat and without any clothes on. At any other time of the day, your weight would be inflated by the food and water you consume throughout the day as well as the clothing you wear. In the morning, you would not have eaten yet, and your body’s water level would also be low because you likely haven’t had much to drink since the night before.

Things to Keep in Mind When Weighing Yourself

When you weigh yourself daily, if you can’t do it naked make sure you wear the same clothes or at least clothing that weighs about the same amount. A change in clothing or the time at which you weigh yourself can make a significant difference when it comes to getting the correct weight. The best approach is to weigh yourself without any clothes or footwear on. This ensures you only get your body weight without any additional pounds.

Otherwise, the closest you can get from one day to the next will have to do. You may be surprised at how much clothing weighs, so pay close attention to what you have on before you get on the scale.

If you are following a weight loss program, you should make it a point to measure your weight on a daily basis. This will help you know how much weight you have lost. Get an electronic scale that weighs you to the nearest tenth or hundredth of a pound. Even if you lose only a couple of tenths of a pound in a day, it will give you the satisfaction that your efforts are bearing fruit.

If you want to track your weight loss progress accurately, the best way to do it is to weigh yourself daily or weekly, but as long as you’re keeping track regularly, choose the frequency that works for you. This way, you will know your weight at all times and can set and strive toward achievable weight-loss goals. Make sure you invest in a high-quality scale so that you can get accurate readings of your weight on a daily basis. After all, if you make all the efforts but you’re not getting an accurate reading, you will only be making choices based on the wrong information.
