This is based on a belief that says that the average body is full of toxins and those must be removed before the body will be in the ideal state for shedding excess weight.

It is important to note that this belief is not supported by much of the mainstream medical community. In fact, many doctors feel that many of the top cleansing diets do more harm than good by stressing the body’s organs unnecessarily without causing any loss of toxins or long term weight loss.

The Master Cleanse – this is, by far, the most widely known detox strategy. It must be continued for ten days. Throughout that time, dieters must drink between six and twelve glasses of lemonade into which cayenne pepper, water, lemon juice and maple syrup have been mixed. On top of that, daily laxatives must be taken.

Juju Cleanse – this is a shorter program, lasting only one or three days. It requires using juices that must be purchased, as opposed to those that can be made by you. The juices include Salaba’t Lemon (which is made of honey, lemon and ginger) and Red Giant (carrots, beets, ginger and pineapple).

The Clean Program – this strategy runs for three weeks and requires you to drink meal replacement shakes. They’re consumed twice per day along with supplements that are approved by the program. Lunch made of whole foods is also allowed but those foods must be selected from a very limited list.
Additional habits for detoxification, such as massage and meditation, are also encouraged.

Dr. Oz’s 48-Hour Cleanse – the television personality has put out a detox diet that focuses on removing the toxins from the liver, colon and kidneys. It focuses on a combination of eating healthful meals and juices. For people who don’t want to chug down juices all the time, you can alternately eat raw veggies. It also recommends Epsom salt baths and dandelion tea (which is essentially a diuretic).
